This past Saturday we had 7 fencers heading down to the Grim Rapier, thank you so much Bay Regional Fencing Alliance for hosting!! However, one of the vehicles was struck by a deer outside Cadillac, thankfully no one was hurt! So what to do about going to the comp? They texted their teammates Claire/Craig what happened and they won't make it but Claire/ Craig shot into action and came back to get 3 people, that's the Spirit of our Team!! They grabbed Memphis, Addy and Evan!! They contemplated strapping Henry to the hood or on to (apparently Henry suggested it) but they didn't have enough straps...Dang!!
They had strong day of fencing... Claire got 2nd (renewing her C)! Evan got 3rd earning a C! (qualifying him to begin fencing in Division 1 at NAC s a huge learning opportunity) Addy won her first DE handily and then gave Chris Pienta a strong bout losing 10-15!! Great Job! Memphis (only his 2nd comp!) had some close pool bouts and was up against Coach Doug Green (WMFA) in his DE but lost a close bout 12-15! Nice job Memphis! Craig did decent in pools but got upset in his first DE....Martha in her DE put in a fantastic effort against 12 seed Carrie Owens losing 13-15, let's go Martha!
Nevertheless it's a testament to our club that even when something terrible happens before the comp, we Rally to support each other and Embrace the Challenge (key) then Bounce Back into the Fight...No Excuses!! Let's Go!!
